Actos Drug Injury

Actos® is a drug prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes.  Actos and a similar diabetes drug, Avandia®, have been linked to severe heart and bladder cancer. According to the AmericanHeart Association, a new study found that Actos and Avandia users were at an increased risk of suffering from heart attack, heart failure, and death

Actos Users at Increased Cardiovascular Risk

According to a study published in the American Heart Association journal Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, more than 28,000 diabetes patients were studied over a 33-month period. The results showed an alarming incidence of heart  problems—some of which were fatal—in the patients taking Actos.

The Actos results were as follows:

  • 121 patients had a heart attack
  • 243 suffered heart failure
  • 18 had both a heart attack and heart failure
  • 217 died
  • 599 total incidents of cardiovascular problems or death

Actos Users at Increase Bladder Cancer Risks

Actos is still being prescribed throughout the United States - even since it's "black box" warning was issued in 2007 by the FDA including Actos and Avandia.  In June of 2011, the FDA issued even stronger warnings noting the increased risk of bladder cancer.
