Suffer from debilitating migraines? If so, a new treatment option has recently received FDA approval.
According to the Mayo Clinic, a migraine can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head. It is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can last for hours to days, and the pain can be so severe that it interferes with all your daily activities. Sometimes migraines are accompanied by an aura, symptoms such as temporary visual or other disturbances, which acts like a warning sign for some individuals that within an hour the migraine headache is about to commence.
Migraines are three times more common in women than in men and affect more than 10% of people worldwide.
In fact, one in seven Americans suffers from migraines and nearly one in four U.S. households includes individuals who suffer with migraines, megrims, or cephalalgia. October 11, 2019, the FDA approved REYVOW® for the acute treatment of migraines. While this new drug cannot prevent the occurrence of a migraine, it can, however, help reduce the time spent suffering from its debilitating effects. As with all medications, side effects are listed for REYVOW® which include dizziness, fatigue, a burning or prickling sensation in the skin (paresthesia), and sedation. As in any pharmaceutical situation, be certain to discuss with your doctor the potential common side effects before trying this or any other newly prescribed medication.
