Antidepressant Lawsuit Attorneys
Helping Those Harmed by the Use of SSRIs
Approximately one in six Americans take psychiatric drugs, according to a February 2017 research letter published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Internal Medicine. The majority of these drugs are antidepressants and are prescribed for long-term use. An estimated 118 million antidepressant prescriptions are filled every year in the United States.
These figures are troubling when you consider the serious side effects that have been associated with antidepressants, specifically selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Birth injuries and suicide are two of the most serious side effects that have been linked to antidepressants.
At Crumley Roberts, we hope to help patients who have suffered serious injuries or have lost loved ones due to antidepressant or SSRI use. Our drug injury lawyers stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Drug manufacturers make billions selling their products to Americans, and we believe they should be held accountable when their drugs cause serious harm.
Crumley Roberts, Helping You Through Life’s Most Difficult Moments
Antidepressants and SSRIs are commonly prescribed to treat depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorders by balancing chemical levels in the brain. These disorders are believed to be caused by chemical imbalances, specifically low serotonin levels. By blocking the reabsorption of serotonin, SSRIs are believed to increase serotonin levels in the brain, thus improving a patient’s mood.
SSRIs like Zoloft®, Lexapro®, Prozac®, Paxil®, Celexa®, and their generic counterparts have unfortunately been linked to serious side effects, resulting in black box warnings and various safety communications issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Some possible side effects include:
- Suicidal thoughts and tendencies
- Birth injuries and birth defects
- High blood pressure
- Difficulty sleeping
- Digestive problems
- Mood swings and behavioral changes
- Irritability and aggression
- Sexual dysfunction
- Weight gain
- Muscle spasms
If you or someone you know has suffered side effects from antidepressants, Crumley Roberts is here to help. When you come to our firm, you become a part of our family.
